Lap Pool Etiquette
At North Clackamas Aquatic Park, we strive to create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all water enthusiasts. To help ensure a positive experience while lap swimming, please follow these important etiquette guidelines:
- Practice Circle Swimming: We encourage swimmers to practice circle swimming in designated lanes only. Split or shared lanes with a maximum of two swimmers are available in addition to circle swim lanes. Circle swimming technique involves swimming on the right-hand side of the lane while moving in a counterclockwise direction. By staying to the right side of the lane, you allow faster swimmers to pass on your left. Maintaining a consistent speed will help prevent congestion and keep the lanes flowing smoothly. Take a moment to pace the lane before alerting swimmers and joining in.
- Respect Personal Space: It's important to respect the personal space of fellow swimmers. Maintaining a safe distance helps avoid accidental collisions. If you find yourself catching up to a slower swimmer, please wait for an appropriate moment to pass them with caution, ensuring you have enough room.
- Avoid Stopping Mid-Lane: Stopping abruptly in the middle of the lane can disrupt the flow for others and increase the risk of collisions. If you need to take a break or adjust your goggles, please move to the side of the lane to allow others to continue swimming uninterrupted.
- Communicate Effectively: Clear communication enhances the experience for everyone. Use hand signals, nods, or eye contact to indicate your intentions, whether it’s to pass or change directions. Being respectful and considerate in your interactions fosters a positive swimming atmosphere.
Thank you for helping to create a friendly and safe swimming environment for everyone. Happy swimming

- Please consult your physician prior to beginning any type of exercise program.
- All classes are subject to change due to instructor substitutions/availability, class attendance, or should an emergency situation arise.
- Avoid disruptions to the class by arriving early/on time to select appropriate equipment, and please keep talking to a minimum. If you find it necessary to leave class early, please let the instructor know in advance.
- Instructors will include modifications for each workout for varying ability levels.
