Date: Mar 19, 2025

Milwaukie Community Center

This year marks a significant milestone for the Milwaukie Community Center as we celebrate our 45th anniversary! Since the Center first opened, thousands of patrons have walked through our doors, enjoying a welcoming space that supports learning, recreation, and social connection. This anniversary reflects our long-standing commitment to the community and highlights the wonderful relationships and essential services that have flourished within our walls.

A Journey Through the Years
The Milwaukie Center has been a vital resource for the older adult community and their families in North Clackamas since its opening in January 1980. Owned by the City of Milwaukie, the City officially transferred operations to NCPRD in 1992. With the help of our dedicated staff and volunteers, the Center has consistently offered senior-oriented programs designed to help older adults maintain their independence while fostering wellness and community connections.

Over the years, we have expanded our services to meet the evolving needs of our diverse community, ensuring that we provide a supportive environment for individuals of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities. Today, the Center boasts an extensive range of programs and services including recreational activities, cultural events, youth classes, camps, and much more.

When the COVID-19 pandemic presented unforeseen challenges, we swiftly adapted our approach by introducing virtual programs and offering curbside pick-up services. As conditions improved, we carefully phased our reopening, gradually restoring our hours and services in a manner that prioritized the safety of our patrons.

Our efforts are bolstered by the unwavering support of the Milwaukie Community Center Foundation, which plays a crucial role in helping to fund essential services at the Center, such as Meals on Wheels. Additionally, we are proud to have over 800 volunteers who contribute more than 75,000 hours of service each year at the Milwaukie Community Center. Each volunteer shares a common mission: to provide our community members with abundant opportunities for enhancing their well-being and overall quality of life.

In 2021, the Milwaukie Center's name was officially changed to the Milwaukie Community Center, to better represent its purpose and commitment to serving all residents of the District. The new name helps promote an inclusive, welcoming, and vibrant space for all community members. As part of our ongoing evolution, we welcomed a stunning new mural in 2024, created by the talented Alex Chiu. This artwork enhances the exterior of the building and further emphasizes our commitment to enriching community spaces for all residents to enjoy
