The Adopt-a-Park program empowers individuals, families, and groups to take an active role in maintaining and beautifying local parks. Join us in creating a clean, vibrant, and safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

Who Can Adopt a Park?

Whether you’re an individual, family, neighborhood group, or local business, anyone can join the Adopt-a-Park program. Youth under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

How to Get Started

1. Submit Your Request

Fill out the online Adopt-a-Park Request Form to get started.

2. Approval and Follow-Up

NCPRD staff will review your request and contact you with next steps.

3. Complete Agreements and Training

Once approved, your group will review the Safety Guidelines and complete the Volunteer Service Agreement. Staff will provide the necessary tools and training.

Have questions about the Adopt-a-Park program? Find answers to some of the most common inquiries below.

Anyone! Individuals, families, businesses, schools, and community groups are welcome to participate.

Volunteers are required to maintain their park at least four times a year, for a minimum of two years.

Duties and responsibilities may include picking up litter and debris, sweeping courts and pathways, removing weeds and invasive plants, report park hazards or safety concerns, reporting and removing graffiti, and planting flowers. Any graffiti removal or plantings require approval from NCPRD staff.

NCPRD provides trash bags, work gloves, and safety information. Volunteers may need to bring additional tools like rakes or brooms.

Group leaders should submit hours on a quarterly basis using the online form or by emailing maintenance@ncprd.com.

Yes! A sign with your group or business name will be placed at your adopted park as a thank-you for your efforts.

Adopt-a-Park Policies

  • Volunteers are required to maintain their adopted park for a minimum of four (4) times a year. Volunteers make up their own schedules. See suggested timelines for project activities.

  • Volunteers are required to read, understand and abide by the Safety Guidelines and each participant must fill out a Volunteer Service Agreement/Liability form.
  • Notify NCPRD office 24 hours prior to a clean-up project that will require debris/litter pickup.
  • All participants shall conduct safety training and review Safety Guidelines prior to any work session.
  • Volunteers must abide by Park Rules and ordinances at all times.
  • Volunteers must notify NCPRD staff when resigning.
  • Volunteers must track hours, and the group must report total hours on a quarterly basis.
